What is the function of F46 polyimide film

The core function of F46 polyimide film (PI-FEP/commonly known as "Fluorine-46 composite film") is to provide high-temperature insulation, high-temperature self-adhesive sealing, oil and water resistance, chemical resistance, flame retardancy, and radiation resistance. It is a key insulation and packaging material for H/C grade motors, electromagnetic wires, cables, FPCs, and other scenarios.

It is a key insulation and packaging material for H/C grade motors, electromagnetic wires, cables, FPCs, and other scenarios.
1、 Basic composition
      Substrate: Polyimide (PI) film, resistant to high and low temperatures, high insulation, and high mechanical strength.
      Coating: Single/double-sided coated with F46 (perfluoroethylene propylene FEP), high-temperature sintered composite.
      Model: FH (single-sided coating F46), FHF (double-sided coating F46).
      Grade: H-grade (180 ℃)/C-grade (220 ℃) insulation.
2、 Core role (five major functions)
1. High temperature resistant electrical insulation (core)
      Long term use: -80 ℃ to 260 ℃; Can withstand 350 ℃ for a short period of time.
High voltage resistance, low dielectric loss, high volume resistivity, moisture resistance, and corona resistance significantly improve the insulation reliability and lifespan of windings.
      Application: Electromagnetic wire winding, interlayer/slot insulation, and end binding for wind turbines, traction motors, submersible/submersible pumps, transformers, and reactors.
2. High temperature self-adhesive sealing (key process)
      The F46 layer melts at 320-380 ℃ and self adheres into one after cooling, without the need for additional glue, simplifying the process and improving efficiency.
      Form a dense moisture-proof sealing layer, resistant to oil, water, and salt spray, suitable for deep wells, humidity, and harsh working conditions.
      Application: Electromagnetic wire winding, coil sealing, flat cable insulation, wire harness bundling and fixing.
3. Chemical resistance and environmental stability
      Resistant to strong acids, strong alkalis, most organic solvents, lubricating oils, hydraulic oils, insoluble and non swelling.
      Resistant to aging, weather, and radiation (applicable to nuclear industry/aerospace).
      Flame retardant UL94 V-0 grade, ultimate oxygen index ≈ 42%, flame retardant, self extinguishing.
4. Excellent machinery and dimensional stability
      High strength, high toughness, bending resistance, with a bending radius of ≤ 2mm, not easily cracked.
      Stable size under high temperature, reduced thermal shrinkage, anti deformation, and anti cracking.
      The insulation layer is thin and uniform (commonly 25 μ m/50 μ m), which improves slot filling rate and reduces motor volume.
5. Electronics and Special Packaging
      Durable and gentle circuit board (FPC) substrate, suitable for high-frequency/high-speed circuits.
      Flexible heater, special probe, PTC resistor, automotive switch diaphragm packaging insulation.
3、 Typical application scenarios
      Motor insulation: Wind power/traction/submersible motor electromagnetic wire winding, interlayer insulation.
      Cable insulation: High temperature cables, flat cables, and special wire harnesses wrapped and sealed.
      Electronic manufacturing: FPC, high-frequency substrate, high temperature resistant adhesive sheet.
      New energy: battery module insulation, energy storage motor, high temperature resistant electrical control isolation.
      Aerospace/nuclear industry: radiation resistant, lightweight insulation structural components.
4、 Key differences from ordinary PI film
      Ordinary PI: No self-adhesive, requires glue; Moisture/oil resistance is average; The wrapping is easy to loosen and absorb moisture.
      F46 composite PI: high-temperature self-adhesive integrated; Oil, water, and chemical resistance; Reliable sealing, long lifespan, suitable for harsh working conditions.
